The restaurant’s unique dining experience, including the tradition of eating with hands, is well appreciated. Guests often mention the welcoming and knowledgeable staff who enhance the atmosphere by sharing insights into the cuisine and cultural elements. The cocktail bar receives positive remarks for its creative and reasonably priced drinks. While some note that prices can be on the higher side, the overall ambiance—suitable for small groups and social gatherings—combined with attentive service, makes Tsehay a favored spot in Washington, DC’s dining scene.
We recently dined at Tsehay and opted to sit outside, where the ambience was quite pleasant. The food was delicious, though a bit on the pricey side. Service was good and quite fast, adding to the overall positive experience. Located in a nice area, Tsehay offers a delightful dining atmosphere. We would definitely go again.
The food and drink at Tsehay are wonderful. Particularly the creative, tasty, and reasonable cocktails and the unique and very flavorful food (the appetizer ribs, beef tibs, and vegan lentil dish are always terrific). But what makes Tsehay so great is the ownders and staff who consistently make us feel welcome and always accommodate our large group (we visit annually during a conference). They go above and beyond to provide a quality, fun, and even educational experience.
We got there just as they opened. They were gracious and sat us promptly. Even the waitress came in after we did. We ordered a vegetarian platter and a meat one and the food was very good. Not at all spicy but had plenty of slivers of fresh jalapeno garnishing to change that if you wanted. It was a great experience. Grew up eating Ethiopian in Adams Morgan 30 years ago and was nice to be able to share that with the kids.
Love having the option to eat with your hands and not getting judged. The ingredients and the food here can’t be beat. This is probably the best Ethiopian food I’ve ever had and I can see how it keeps showing up on the Michelin guides year after year. Ambiance is perfect for a small group of friends.
We arrived shortly after opening, the store wasn't busy yet. The staff were very kind and told us all about Ethiopian cuisine. They also explained some of the stories behind the pictures on the walls. All of the food was very tasty and the dessert is to die for. A friend recommended this restaurant to me and I have to continue to recommend it to all. If you've never tried Ethiopian before, Tsehay's is the place to go!
Really cozy atmosphere and you could tell some of the employees and regulars had a really good relationship. The food was also pretty good along with the drinks. My only small gripe was our server seemed a lil off and almost dropped my dish on the table in front of me but they also seemed to be pretty short staffed when the place was packed.
Best Ethiopian food I’ve had! Amazing options, friendly staff, and cozy atmosphere. The cocktails were also top notch!
This place is incredible! We got the meat and vegan platters. 10/10 tasty and great for a group. We got honeywine and coffees and strongly recommend everything.
